New Cruise Era Begins in Miami with
Royalās Terminal G
Driving the news: Royal Caribbean Group has officially started construction on Cruise Terminal G at PortMiami, a $345 million project that will reshape the northern tip of Dodge Island and boost Miami's role as a global cruise leader.
Details:
Terminal G will be able to handle up to 7,000 passengers.
It includes a dedicated parking garage and intermodal facility.
The terminal is designed for Royal Caribbeanās Icon Class ships ā among the largest in the world.
Completion is expected in late 2027.
Located beside Virgin Voyagesā Terminal V, it will complement Royalās flagship Terminal A, which currently handles its largest vessels.
The old Terminal G, once a backup site for older ships, was demolished in July 2025.
Why it matters: Miami continues to cement its spot as the cruise capital of the world, and this project signals confidence in the city's growing cruise economy.
With passenger records already broken in 2025, the new terminal helps meet demand while adding local jobs and showcasing Royal Caribbeanās cleaner, smarter cruise experience.
The big picture: PortMiami hosted 8.56 million passengers in fiscal 2025, a 4% bump from the previous year. That includes weekly traffic topping 10,000 passengers from just two ships: Icon of the Seas and MSC World America.
Cruise lines are responding. MSC just opened a nearby terminal that can manage up to 36,000 passengers at once.
Whatās next: Expect updates throughout 2026 and 2027 as construction progresses. Once open, Terminal G will serve as the new home for some of Royal Caribbeanās most high-profile sailings.
