๐ Remembering the Champlain Towers tragedy
Today, June 24 is officially Champlain Towers-Surfside Remembrance Day in Miami-Dade County. It was one year ago today that our community awoke to the news that a condo building in Surfside has collapsed. Though many investigative reports have been done the ultimate cause remains unknown.
Statewide, structural inspections of condo buildings 3 stories or higher are now required after 30 years. Additionally buyers of condos who are obtaining mortgages are required to present the structural engineering report to the lender prior to loan approval. Buildings that need remediation are denied loans.
Today's day of remembrance began with a torch lighting at 1:22am the moment of the collapse and it will remain lit in Veterans Park across from the collapse sight.
